From the Australian Open to the A-Leagues: GIS Global Sports Summit Returns to Australia in 2027

Aspiring sports industry professionals will have the opportunity to experience Australia’s sporting landscape firsthand when the Global Institute of Sport (GIS) hosts its Global Sports Summit Australia 2027 across Melbourne and Sydney from 15 to 24 January 2027.

The ten-day summit will bring together students, aspiring sports leaders and industry professionals for an immersive programme featuring conferences, interactive workshops, professional networking and live sporting experiences across Australia’s two largest cities.

Beginning in Melbourne on Friday, 15 January, before moving to Sydney on Wednesday, 20 January, the summit will provide participants with access to leading sporting environments and major events, including planned opportunities to experience A-Leagues football, WNBL basketball and the Australian Open.

The programme will conclude in Sydney on Sunday, 24 January 2027.

Two Cities, Ten Days of Sports Industry Experience

The GIS Global Sports Summit Australia 2027 will be delivered across two major sporting destinations, combining educational experiences with access to Australia’s professional sports industry.

The Melbourne programme will run from 15 to 20 January, with conference activities hosted at Junction Oval and opportunities to engage with industry professionals across the city’s sporting landscape.

The summit will then move to Sydney from 20 to 24 January, where Allianz Stadium will provide the setting for further conference sessions, workshops and networking opportunities.

Both cities will host GIS Sports Conference activities, giving attendees the opportunity to learn directly from professionals working across sports administration, commercial operations, coaching, events and performance.

Access to Australia’s Leading Sporting Organisations

A major component of the summit will be its industry conference programme, featuring keynote presentations, interactive workshops, panel discussions and professional networking sessions.

Previous GIS Global Sports Summit speakers and contributors have included professionals associated with the A-Leagues, Australian Grand Prix, Melbourne Stars, Australian Paralympics, Preston Lions, Australian Rugby World Cup, Tennis Australia, Venues NSW and the Women’s Asian Cup.

Through these industry connections, the summit aims to provide participants with insights into the commercial, operational and strategic challenges facing modern sporting organisations.

Attendees will also have opportunities to develop professional relationships and gain a greater understanding of career pathways across the international sports industry.

From the Classroom to the Stadium

Beyond its conference programme, the summit will offer participants opportunities to experience Australian sport live, with planned attendance at major sporting events across Melbourne and Sydney.

These experiences include A-Leagues football, WNBL basketball and the Australian Open, subject to fixture schedules, ticket availability and final itinerary confirmation.

By combining industry education with live sporting experiences, GIS aims to demonstrate how major sporting events operate while exposing participants to Australia’s sporting culture.

The programme is designed to connect theoretical learning with practical industry observations, providing attendees with a broader understanding of sports business, event delivery and professional sporting environments.

Coaching and Performance Analysis at Preston Lions

Participants will also have the option to attend a Coaching and Performance Analysis Immersive Session at Preston Lions in Melbourne.

The session will offer an opportunity to step inside a club sporting environment and explore how coaching methods, performance analysis and sporting principles are applied in practice.

Through this experience, attendees can gain insights into the relationship between coaching, player development and the analytical processes used to support performance.

The optional session adds another dimension to the summit, particularly for participants interested in coaching, sports analytics and performance-related careers.
